Pre-O© solves both a consumer issue, and a producer issue at the same time.
The consumer issue is that organic produce is for most buyers too expensive. We need an alternative that suits consumers with a tighter budget but who still value their health and the well-being of the environment. Pre-organic is that more affordable alternative.
The producer issue is that farmers converting to organic go through a typically 2-5 year transition period. This period requires them to farm organically, but they can't yet sell their produce as organic. So during this period the farmer suffers the higher costs and lower yields associated with organic farming, but can't receive the higher prices of organic food sales. They thus tend to struggle financially. Pre-O© certification allows them to receive a premium payments for marketing their produce as pre-organic.
